So in the introduction to the Emile Durkheim section, Edles and Appelrouth discuss how Durheim argued that society was a supraindividual force exsisting independently of the actors who compose of it. Later they go on to that this is one of the largest critiques of Durkheim (that he overlooks the role of the individual) I completely agree. It think that by saying that society is the determining force of people’s choice and experiences makes the role of people seem almost as puppets with no individual will or actions. Thoughts?

Also does Durkheim’s arguement go along with Marx’s idea that experiences determine ideas?
